Portfolio Event

It was so amazing to participate in the LDS Business College's portfolio event. I felt like it truly was a culmination of everything I have worked so hard to accomplish in the last two years. I was proud of my display and my work, and even happier to be awarded 2nd place in the commercial design category. I am looking forward to enetering my work in the regional portfolio event in two weeks.

ImageNation

I designed this space based on the client profile and requirements sheet I received. I reviewed the client’s needs and built a criteria matrix to make sure I addressed all of their needs. From there I drew bubble diagrams, block diagrams, and space-planned the individual rooms. After following this process, I felt confident I had met all of the client’s needs and drew up the floor plan.
While the materials board only showcases the lobby, the rest of the space follows along the same lines. The directors’ offices have reeded glass walls directly across from the windows to allow lots of light into the space but still afford privacy, and the cubicles are formed into team spaces with a small meeting space in the center for constant collaboration.

The lobby will be a potential client’s first impression of the marketing firm. With that in mind, I designed the space as a reflection of their place in the industry. The firm is slick and cutting edge and needed a space that voiced that. I chose concrete floors in silver, with a black and silver diamond pattern to give a sense of history and longevity to the firm but at the same time imply that they are a modern company.
The wall behind the reception desk is made out of curved 3-form. The logo is popped out in metal letters with a fountain running behind it (the client requested a water feature in the lobby). The desk curves in the other direction back towards the 3-form wall. I took advantage of the 10’ ceilings by painting the lower 6’ in dark grey and covering the upper 4’ in a graphic wallpaper. This allowed me to use a bold pattern in the space without it feeling overwhelming.

Eaglewood Kitchen/Dining

This space was also part of the model-home condo I designed. The way we entertain and interact in the home is changing, and I wanted this space to reflect and embrace that. The kitchen is the heart of the home and is now the center for entertaining, so I added space for two at the glass island where people can sit and converse with the cook.
Across from the island I added an Eco-Smart fireplace. it only needs 12" of clearance and since it runs on denatured alcohol it is also vent-less, which makes it a perfect choice as an upgrade to a condo (with less room for customization). An aluminum wall system surrounds the fireplace, adding display and storage space. The kitchen/dining space is now the perfect room for a fireplace, as the main gathering spot of the home.

Eaglewood Nursery

This room was part of a model-home condo I designed. The development was aimed at young professionals and newlyweds so I chose to include a nursery to infer the home had room to grow. I wanted to show that a nursery could be modern and still soft. I chose furniture with clean lines and modern elements and a fresh color scheme of pink, raspberry, and green.
The fabrics are soft and touchable and the built0in window seat adds a traditional element. I chose to install drawers in the window seat rather than use a lift-up top for easier access to the items that are stored there.

Salon BH

For this assignment I redesigned the historic Bunnell House on UVSC campus into a salon. I kept the architectural integrity of the building by preserving the original layout of the exterior doors and windows and the interior transoms. I divided the space into a reception area, a break room, a waxng room, a bathroom, a pedicure area, and a hair-cutting space.


The feel I was going for in this space was Beatnik Chic. I wanted it to feel upscale and a little funky. To accomplish this, I chose an unusual color scheme with paint and fabrics, mid-century modern furnishings, and a moody lighting scheme. At the same time, I chose high-quality fabrics and rich materials to reinforce that Salon BH is a quality business.

Honeymoon Suite

The scope of this project was to take a room shell with existing plumbing lines and create an efficient floor plan and space plan a newlywed couple would enjoy.
The room was designed to feel fresh, light, and clean and to appeal to a wide range of couples. It was designed to give the couple a rich and luxurious experience with features such as a large shower, large jacuzzi tub, two-person chaise, fireplace, and custom water feature.



This suite is a responsible and sustainable space. The carpet tiles are Leed certified and are less wasteful since it's easier to replace damaged sections. I specified Cradle-to-Cradle Gold Certified IceStone countertops made with recycles glass and VOC-free ingredients. The backsplash is hand-made with a 40% recyclable content. I chose bamboo for its hardwearing and sustainable qualities. I specified the Tuxedo Double Chaise and Side Chair because of their FSC certified wood frame, recycled steel hardware, non-toxic finish and adhesives, and natural latex cushions in organic wool wrap. The paint is also low VOC.



The most unique feature in the suite is the water feature behind the flat screen TV, The TV is mounted on a sheet of clear acrylic that extends 6" from the wall. The electrical for the TV is enclosed in a waterproof acrylic cylinder for safety. Near the top and bottom of the wall are the fountain and return mechanisms (whihc are faced in tiger strand bamboo), so that the water flows down behind the TV. The fountain can be used whether the TV is on or off.
The fireplace and bathroom walls are faced in IceStone, which also makes the space easier to clean since it eliminates most of the grout.

Urban Living Space

I wanted this room to encompass modern glamor. To accomplish this feeling, I chose sophisticated materials and finishes such as stainless steel, metallic wall paint, and iron-look tile. I brought in an element of the unexpected with a ceiling graphic, to play against the solid fabric and sleek finishes. A red pendant hangs from the center of the graphic to add balance to the space.


I designed this space working from an existing floor plan.I chose the layout of the space to take advantage of the fireplace and the view, and to facilitate conversation.
